Interesting time ahead.

I was flicking through a very old newspaper yesterday when a very small article caught my eye and I immediately thought that it would make a fantastic base for a story. I think that it would be too long for a short story if that makes sense - so I'm thinking a book. The trouble is that it will involve a LOT of research and that is something that I haven't really done before.
It should be interesting if nothing else.
By the way, if anyone has any advice in this department I really would appreciate it. I will need to research life in a certain period so that I can develope the characters and the research a certain event.

Oh, that sounds fascinating, Colette. Am afraid I have no advice about research - I tend to write contemporary stories to get around that problem (I know, I'm lazy).

Good luck with this.

You and me both Suzanne. I've spent ages wondering should I look into this or should it be that. Writing about what you know is so much easier. I am however trying to come up with a plan of what I need to know then I can attack it bit by bit.

I write historical's and I have to say I *have* to do a heck of a lot of research! When you write "H's", if you make a mistake - think of an Elizabethan lady eating a sandwich - then trust me when I say that *someone* will spot it. Didn't happen to me - but it did to another published author and she says she was bombarded with letters and emails of complaint for years! If I can help - then you know where I am! Caroline x

I love research, though I've not had to study another time period yet.

It's good to immerse youself in it for a while, soaking up all the details so that when you start writing you'll have a really good feel for your subject even though you won't need to use all of it - just enough to sound authentic.

Good luck :o)

Caroline - thanks for the advice.
Karen - I am looking forward to getting stuck into it.

Have you tried reaseraching for books on google? I've tried emailing people without success and interviewing people which was nerve wracking but useful. :O)

I'm afraid the research isn't going as well as I hoped Madeleine. I just can't get a feel for the era. Maybe I'll use the idea for a piece of shprt fiction or maybe an article.
