I'm kicking myself because I think I may have made a very basic boo boo.
I wrote a story a while ago which I submitted to a magazine on 4th April. I duly recorded on my submissions list that I had sent it to the magazine. However when I was going through some letters I see that the covering letter for that story is for another editor at another magazine AAAGGGHHHH!!!!
I'm hoping that I've recorded the wrong magazine on my list because if I've sent it with a covering letter to the wrong person I'll be black balled forever. I've had a look at my list and in the past the magazine that I think I sent it to have taken 2 - 3 to get back to me with a rejection so I'll have a while to wait until I find out.
On a brighter note I did receive a nice fat cheque the other day from a magazine that's had a couple more of my stories for over three months which is promising.
I'm still kicking myself though.

I wouldn't have thought it would be the end of the world, even if you have sent the wrong covering letter. We all make mistakes - even editors and publishers! The trick is to admit your mistake and apologise for it, rather than hiding it by saying nothing. That is, if it is actually the wrong letter.
Perhaps the time-stamps on the files for these stories and letters might give you a clue? For example, if the "last modified" date & time for the (wrong) cover letter file is very similar to that for the story document, then this is further evidence for a mistake. It doesn't prove it of course, only the magazine will know that for sure.
Anyway, I hope things turn out good in the end.
Unfortunately for me they had the same "last modified date. Like you say if I did make a mistake I'll just admit to it and apologise. I've learnt that theres little point in pretending that you didn't do something wrong when you did because you always get found out in the end.
Stop kicking yourself, Gonna Be, and give yourself a big hug and a pat on the back instead ... what fantastic news!
I too find fessing up the best policy when I make a mistake ... and usually laugh at myself for being so daft. (I spend a lot of time laughing!)
Try not to worry. Especially as you might not even have made a mistake ... I hope you hear soon (with an acceptance!)
:o)
Don't beat yourself up. These things happen and most important thing is you will learn from it.
I usually find things happen for a reason..
As moondreamer says-concentrate on the positives-look how well you are doing...
warm wishes
