Opinions sought

I'd be interested to know what you think about simultaneous submissions. I'm reluctant to try it but sometimes it is months before you get an answer from an editor and if that answer is negative it's time wasted. I'm not sure what the protocol is these days. I know that it used to be frowned upon.

For short stories? I'd avoid it. Nothing more embarrassing that having someone ring you up (or email you) to tell you they loved your work and want to publish it and you have to tell them, sorry, someone else already has. In that situation I don't think the editor would look particularly kindly on your next submission!

Thanks Cally, I know you are right but I just find the waiting so frustrating.

Hi,

You might also want to look at the Duotrope database which will list whether the publications minds receiving simultaneous subs - surprisingly some don't mind which means you can send a few copies off to them if they are right for your story too!

Hope thats a help, great blog by the way!

Kerry :)
