How many of us want to give up the day job and write full time? Show of hands please. I thought so, quite a few of us.
Well, according to an article I read the other day and sadly for us (me included) apparently there is no money in writing and the chances of being able to being able to write all day long without another means of supplementing our income are remote. So what of the six figure deals that we all dream of? It seems they are very rare and are exaggerated.
I guess we'd better carry on doing it for the love.

Yes, I came to that realisation about six months ago but it's cool, I've just changed my expectations. Now, instead of thinking 'oh, I'll give up my job and write full time' I'm thinking, 'I'll use my advance to pay off some debts and go on a nice holiday'. Which is still cool. Good job I don't hate my job ;o)
My hand is up.
No six figure deal though. Which is a shame.
I'm with both of you. Now its about a bit of extra money for the things that we need/want. Having said that if someone wanted to give me a six figure sum for something I'd written I wouldn't be able to say yes quick enough.
My hand is up too. We can dream I suppose but there's no harm in trying. Good thing we all love this writing lark.
I read that even established authors don't necessarily make a fortune, so I suppose it is just as well there's a love element!
Id love to, especially when you read about people like Adele Parks who got a publishing deal within 1 week of getting an agent! (sickening....back to dreaming.)
