A question

I have a story that I feel is suitable for two markets. One is in this country and the other is abroad. As I would be oferring only the first publishing rights in each country would it be okay to send it to both of them?

I should think you'd be okay. I know some magazines abraod offer less money for stories previously published in other countries, which implies they're happy to take them even if they have been sent elsewhere. But I do seem to remember someone saying that My Weekly (I think) publish abroad, so it might be worth ringing the magazine to check what they think.

Sorry, have rambled on without giving you a proper answer.

That's a perfectly proper answer Suzanne. I know that That's Life (Aus) pay less if it's been seen elsewhere so what you said makes sense. Thanks, I think I'll give it a go.

I'm a bit late with this and you've probably already done it! - but yes, I don't see why you shouldn't do that as long as you make it clear what rights you are offering.

I haven't actually done it Olivia because when I looked at the submissions guidelines for on of the magazines in mind it said that the story must not be under consideration anywhere else. If I'd chosen a different magazine in the UK I think I would have done it though.
