A new beginning

As you may know I started a new project last week (CT) and as of last night I was 3,500 words into it. It was coming along okay but only that. It was okay. I wasn't terribly happy with it. However after much thought I believe that I have come up with a much better start. So in a few minutes time I'll be holding down the delete button and starting afresh. It means that I'm a week behind on the word count target that I set myself - well 9 days to be exact - but I'm hoping to pick that up in the next fifty and a half weeks.
So here goes.

Sometimes you only find the beginning a few pages in. But am sure the part that you had written has given you an insight into the character/setting you didn't have before. You'll be speeding through that word count before you know it.

Best of luck,
Colette

Oh no, please don't press delete - save it to a 'CT cut scenes' folder. It will be much better than you think it is and you might be able to reuse some of it later.

That is so true anon. What I hah already written told me about the character it was just that I didn't feel like I had introduced her properly.
Okay Suzanne, I won't delete.

So glad you didn't delete, Colette - Suzanne is so right - never delete anything! Good luck with your project! x

I'm pretty much where you are with my WIP and it's a little like wading through mud at the moment, but do keep going. It can all be changed in the next draft - or at least that's what I tell myself!

A 'cut scenes' folder is a really good idea. I usually end up with several versions of things on the computer because I don't like to delete scenes completely, just in case I find a use for them later.

I started three or four times before I made any headway with my novel and now I'm now 33k words closer to finishing my first draft.

Good luck with yours, Colette

Amanda and FP - I can confirm that I didn't delete and I am glad that I didn't though I did rip up the very original version that was written in long hand.
Oh Debs that mud is a nightmare but that's the good thing about the draft stage - things can always be changed.
Joanne - I think that I'll keep the cut scenes until the whole thing is finished and then I might get rid of them or maybe move them to a different folder to use on something else.
Good luck with the book Jarmara - what's your target length?
