Going through one of my folders that contain stories that are not quite finished I found two stories that I had completely forgotten about.
They both have the same central character and the plan was that they would be the start of a series. I suspect that they are both still sitting in that folder because I didn't know which magazine to pitch them at. I'll have to give it some thought because I really like them.
I've also just given BTL another outing at an agency. I wish that I could get someone to read the whole thing, I don't know if its just me because I have read the first three chapters a thousand times but they don't excite me as much as they used to but when I read the rest of it recently I loved it.
All I want is for one person (other than me) to read the whole thing.
On a different note, Himself and I are having our first day "out" since April and I am terribly excited at the prospect.

It's a good sign that when you came back to it, you loved it :-) It's very difficult when you're so close though isn't it.

The series thing is tricky, isn't it. I've several projects that would fit nicely into serials, but nowhere to submit them. Very few magazines (in my genres) accept series or serials. Oh well, back to the novels for now…
I'm surprised you don't have an ideal reader, as Stephen King calls it. Someone to read your work and whose opinion you value. Someone who will evaluate your writing on its merit and not just gush about how great it is because of their emotional connection with you (e.g. as a family member might do).
Are there any local writing groups you might join? Or perhaps an on-line one?
I hope your "date" went well.
You need to find a critique partner. I belong to an e-critique group for YA and am finding this very useful.
Teresa - it is hard when you're close to something creative - it feels like a baby.
Captain - my "date" was brill thanks you. I have a friend who would make an ideal "ideal reader" because she commissions creative work for a living and is used to critiquing and I know from bitter experience that she wouldn't let 40 years of friendship stop her from being honest.
Debbie - I should join a critique group really. I'll look into it.
