Just curious

Just wondered if anyone was signed up to NaNoWriMo this year? Or have you done it before? Or generally what your thoughts are about it?

I've always wanted to have a go but have always been too busy with other writing projects. Good luck if you do decide to have ago.

Never done it before, but am giving it a go. I want to see if I can actually get to 50,000 in a month. It's all planned now, so I've got to see it through.

No! It's my idea of a total nightmare! But very good luck if you plan to do it, Colette.

I did it last year and wrote a 52,000 word novel. I didn't expect a lot out of the experience, but it turned out to be worth it. I experimented using one of my weaker story ideas just in case it didn't work out though. I plan to give it another shot this year too.

jarmara - never thought about doing it before because I think that I would be setting myself up for a biog disappointment when I didn't manage it. That's still the same so don't think I will this year either.
debbie - good luck. Be sure to let us know how you get on.
Frances - me too and no I'm not.
jsickels - now that's very interesting. How did it work out for you last year? Were you happy with the result? Good luck for this year and well done on the 52k last year.

I like the idea of NaNoWriMo, despite my grumblings about it on Facebook, as it would give me a much needed kick up the backside. The problem is that I'm usually away for the last six days of November, which means I'd have to write 2,084 words per day in order to reach the target.

I attempted it last year but didn't make the goal, mostly due to failing to write at weekends. I did manage to reach 33,041 words though. This year I probably won't do it, though I could have my arm twisted.

Like you Captain, it would give me a kick up the proverbial too but I know that after I come in from work and have made the tea yada yada yada i would not write 1700 words every day so I would ultimately end up disappointed with my efforts and down on myself about it.

I've never, as yet, been tempted by NaNo... but I know it can be a great incentive!

Don't think it's for me Amanda.

I tried it a couple of years ago and failed spectacularly. I don't seem to work well when there are rules :0(

I did something similar years ago and found it great fun but that was writing a novel in a weekend. Some people really enjoy it, others don't. Depends what you may get out of it.

Suzanne - you and me both.
FP - a novel in a weekend! I'm impressed. For me personally, I think that all targets have to be realistic and I know that this one for me is not so I wouldn't consider it at this point in time. Having said that though, its not really the wordcount target that puts me off.

I have done it before and used it to motivate myself to get a first draft of my novel almost complete. Thing is I felt guilty if I didn't reach my word target for the day, so it wasn't that enjoyable!

Having said that I'm going to do try it again this year ...
