I'm seriously thinking of dipping my toe back into the short fiction water and I wondered if anyone knew if Best were still taking submissions. I think that I read somewhere that they were only doing fiction again for the summer. I'd appreciate any info anyone has because I have a story that I think might interest them.
I've been away from short fiction for about a year now and haven't really kept up with much gossip. Is there anything that anyone thinks that I should know?

Hi, Colette. I do know someone who sent one in to Best because they thought it might be suitable and Best bought it. I also heard that they're calling their fiction slot "Five Minute Fiction" now, not "Summer Fiction". The closing date for their competition is quite soon (6 October I think) but you have to have collected all the tokens to enter (which I didn't because I missed one of the issues).
Good to hear you're writing short stories again.
I don't know if Best are accepting submissions, but they definitely have a short story in this week's issue. Lots of luck with your story.
Are you entering the competition?

Jarmara - Womag's blog always was a great source of info.
Kath - I'm afraid I'm in th esame boat as you.
Suzanne - No I missed a token. Are you entering?
I wonder if these short story workshops would interest you?
Thanks Captain - I'll check them out.
Woman's Weekly have increased their fiction specials, so that's good news!
Best did stop publishing fiction for a while, but things are looking more positive at present.
Helen - that's good news though I've not had success with them yet.
Patsy - good news about Best. Let's hope they continue to publish fiction.
Good luck with your return to short stories, Colette. x
That's great that you're writing short stories again. Good on you. I agree that womagwriter has got lots of info regarding markets. My favourite is That's Life Fast Fiction here in Australia. They publish one story in their weekly mag and also have Fast Fiction which comes out quarterly. Word range is good too.
Thanks Amanda - I haven't actually taken the plunge yet but that will change this weekend.
Diane - Lovely to hear from you. One of the first stories I ever sold was to TLFF so I've always had a bit of a soft spot for that one,
