I have come to appreciate that the markets available to us (or is that we) writers is a small one. Okay, so I'm a bit slow on the up-take what can I say?
I read an article the other day about someone who writes for websites and said that these were the future. A friend of mine has written articles for websites since they were made redundant a year and a half ago and seems to be quite successful. They're on holiday at the moment so I can't pick her brains but I just wondered if any of you had any experience of this outlet.
Rule number one of my "Let's do this thing" philosophy is Always be on the look out for a market.- that number is subject is subject to change as and when I come up with more rules.

Slow on the up-take, yes I can empathise with that, I've recently come to some similar conclusions. It gave me muse a real battering to realsie that as we slog away for days without pay were aren't considered to be working until we've been paid for a story/article. I like the idea you suggest about writing for websites. I know a lady who does just that. I guess it hadn't dawned on me she might also get paid for it. LOL! Good luck :O)
This is a great rule. I don't know anything about writing for websites, but it does make sense this would be the way to go.

No, I've not done any but be coincidence I have thought about it a few times over recent months - even started browsing a couple of sites, like Helium etc.
Will be interesting to see others experiences and how you progress if you decide to dip your toe.

Are we talking about non-fiction here? The term "writing for web sites" seems a bit general.
I toyed with the idea of non-fiction writing for money but have put that on hold for now.
I've never thought of writing for websites before, but it's definitely a market worth looking into.
Looking forward to rule number 2!
I will keep my eyes peeled for new markets, Colette!
Madeleine - that describes me exactly. I haven't sold a story for a few months so have I really been working? I would say yes because everything that we have worked on or are working on at the minute is being done with a view to being published one day. So I just have't been paid for it yet. Interesting point you make tough because in the eyes of anyone who doesn't write the answer is probably no I haven't been working.
Suzanne - the future it may be but I still prefer something that has a page to turn.
BSM - I've written a couple of articles for Helium but I don't see how it is an option for making any money and I told myself a year or so ago that I don't write for nothing unless it's for a good cause. I think I'll need to investigate that market more.
Captain - yes it was non fiction that I was talking about. Fancy - me being vague - who'd've thought it. One of my aims at my last PDR was to say exactly what I mean. Guess I've some more work to do on that one.
Karen - the way things are at the minute I'm thinking that any market is worth considering.
Amanda - thanks.
