Possibly on the wrong road

I'm wondering if the fiction road is the right one for me. I mean, I have had another hit and once again it is non fiction. This year there has been the article in the local paper that was for the day job, a piece that will be in My Weekly in the summer and there is a memoir type piece in the March edition of Prima. All non fiction - all since Christmas. Maybe I should concentrate on that.
The piece in this months Prima is the competition entry that I had forgotten about that I mentioned a few months ago. I didn't win but as a runner up I get a years subscription to the magazine which is not to be sniffed at.
I'm talking nonsense of course because I love writing fiction but I'm enjoying getting non fiction published too.

I was wondering the same myself as I find I can get non-fiction published far easier than fiction

I don't think it means you're on the wrong road. The truth is that it's much easier to get non-fiction published than fiction because the market is bigger. I have the same dilemma sometimes, but I know I won't give up the fiction because I love it too much.

I was so excited when I read that you're in the March issue of Prima - I have Wise Words in there. So I dug out my copy and I've just read your piece. And it's so beautifully written and so very heartbreaking...

You musn't just concentrate on non-fiction though. As someone who's been privileged to read your fiction I know you're very talented at that as well. You should concentrate on both.

The two things I had published first were both non-fiction.

I was doing a course with The Writer's Bureau, and the first half of it concentrated on articles and features, their theory being that it's potentially easier to get non-fiction pieces published, and when you do it's a great incentive to carry on writing. They weren't wrong!

However, fiction is where my heart lies and I soon drifted back to that. I wouldn't rule out doing more non-fiction in the future though.

Jarmara - I'm happy to have either published.
Helen - I don't think that I would ever give up on the fiction completely but I might do more non fiction in future.
Suzanne - great advice. I clearly have been my mother for a long time already. Every word of what I wrote was true which is why it is so sad.
Karen - I started the WB course but didn't finish it.
